Chronic diseases are long-lasting conditions that generally persist for a year or more and require ongoing medical attention or limit daily activities. These diseases typically progress slowly and can be managed but are not usually cured. Some examples include heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, obesity, and Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. These diseases often share risk factors like poor diet, lack of physical activity, smoking, and excessive alcohol use. Effective management often includes lifestyle changes, medication, and regular monitoring. Chronic diseases can significantly affect a person's quality of life, and prevention or early intervention can help reduce their impact. This “U-LINK Chronic Diseases” call for applications is intended to catalyze interdisciplinary collaborations to understand and lower the rising rates of chronic diseases affecting our health.
