Concerts with humans and artificial intelligence (CHAI): Musicians' perceptions of acceptability and self-efficacy when cocreating with artificial intelligence

Summary

Over the last 5 years, AI tools for music making have reached unprecedented levels of ubiquity and acuity, as evidenced by the emergence and growth of the International AI Song Contest, in which over 100 teams of music makers and AI specialists have participated since it began in 2020. This team proposes a series of activities designed to put AI tools in the hands of music creators, to investigate the effect of these activities on participants, and to empower them to help shape the narrative of how AI can and will be used.
